I really wanted to like this place. It’s a traditional style boozer, rough round the edges, but not in a bad way. The atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon was relaxed, and it felt like a good place to grab a bite to eat.

The sunday menu consisted of mostly roast dinners as you’d expect, but we were in the mood for a decent, home cooked burger. Big mistake!

The plate consisted of a burger, chunky chips, salad and coleslaw. The coleslaw tasted and looked home-made, and was really tasty – everything else went downhill from there. The chips looked handcut, and weren’t bad tasting, but based on the rest of the food, I was a bit suspicious. The salad was blatantly a ‘baby leaf’ type salad from a supermarket, which was rapidly drowning in some out-of-a-bottle salad dressing – it was drenched in the stuff. The burger had a very strange consistency – in fact I’ve never seen anything like it. Needless to say, neither of us finished our food.

If you fancy a quiet pint, then by all means drop in to The Daniel Defoe, but avoid eating here at all costs. The food is incredibly bad.
